Top ten... tees in film.

We’ve delved into our film library, and picked some of favourite on-screen tee moments, as worn by some of our favourite leading ladies (and a couple of gentleman). We are currently wearing our RADISH sunburst tee, with white denim like Francoise and for dancing around the living room like Ariel in Footloose…

1. Francoise Hardy - ‘Grand Prix’

Francoise was a big fan of a T paired with jeans, and it even translated into her wardrobe onscreen. The 60s fashionista played Lisa, the girlfriend of an Italian Grand Prix racer in John Frankenheimer’s 1966 blockbuster, wearing this tshirt and looking the ever-radiant style icon she was, and still is.

2. Timothée Chalamet - ‘Call Me By Your Name’

The dreamy Timothée Chalamet brings 80s nostalgia to life in his role playing Elio in this 2017 coming of age film by Luca Guadagnino. Timothée steals every scene in a wardrobe that the costume designer described as providing "a sense of insouciant adolescent sensuality, summer heat and sexual awakening” – pulled off with a number of vintage Ts from her husbands stash.

3. Margot Robbie - ‘Once Upon A Time In Hollywood’

Margot Robbie plays a radiant depiction of Sharon Tate in Quentin Tarrentino’s 2019 box office smash. Margo’s supporting role gives an added joie de vivre to the story, especially in this scene where she is dancing around her house in a striped T shirt to Paul Revere and The Raiders.

4. Geena Davis - ‘Thema and Louise ‘

Geena Davis plays Thema, a girl who is on the run with her partner in crime Louise, played by Susan Sarandon, in Ridley Scott’s 1991 cult classic. Who else could pull off a ‘fugitive chic T’ like this iconic duo?

5. Lori Singer - ‘Footloose’

Lori Singer plays Ariel, a rebellious teen in an ultra-conservative town in this 1984 dance classic by Herbert Ross. Lori’s character is spurred on by co-star Kevin Bacon to challenge the system, shake up the town and bring back dance. What better way to protest the man (and your dad) than wearing a T which says “dance your ass off”?!?

6. Natasha Lyonne - ‘In Slums Of Beverly Hills’

Natasha Lyonne plays Vivian Abramowitz, a young Jewish girl growing up in 1976, in this 1998 comedy by Tamara Jenkins. The scandalously sexually curious Vivian is trying to survive her nomadic life in the outskirts of Beverly Hills by wearing her neighbour and love interest’s Ts.

7. Jean Seberg - ‘A Bout Le Soufle’

Jean Seberg stars in the 1960’s influential French New Wave crime thriller directed by Jean-Luc Godard. Jean plays a plucky American who is an aspiring journalist living in Paris and gets caught up with the criminal doings of her love interest Michel. The film didn’t have a costume designers so the effortless style choice of a printed T was likely to have been Jean’s.

8. Anna Karina - ‘Pierot Le Fou’

Anna Karina played Marianne in another of Jean-Luc Godard’s French New Wave Classics in 1965. Anna is on the run from gangsters with her ex-boyfriend Ferdinand, and they go on a travelling crime spree from Paris to The Med. Anna always looks effortlessly chic throughout the film, especially in her white printed T paired with a sailor hat, representing her gung-ho character traits.

9. Matthew McConaughey - ‘Dazed And Confused’

The ultimate 70s throwback, this coming of age classic from Richard Linklater in 1993 boats a star studded cast. In Matthew McConaughey’s breakout role, he plays David, an older graduate, who is always on the hunt for a good buzz and high school girls. Matthew wears a Ted Nugent T throughout the film, a t shirt now nearly as iconic as the film itself.

10. Julia Roberts - ‘Mystic Pizza’
